Naib Canselor Universiti Malaysia Kelantan
Naib Canselor Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Husaini Omar was born in Kelantan where he received his early education there. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Geology from University of Malaya in 1988. He worked with various companies (contractor and consultant) as petroleum geologist and engineering geologist for 5 years, before enrolling in University of Leeds UK for his Master Degree in 1995. He received his PhD degree in Geological Engineering & Expert System from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2002. He joined Faculty of Engineering, UPM in 1996 as a lecturer and he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2002. He served as the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering in 2002, and is currently the Naib Canselor Universiti Malaysia Kelantan
His research interest encompasses such as terrain and karsts areas, landslide, and rock engineering. He has more than 100 papers published in journals and conferences. He has also published 8 books and proceedings. Together with his colleagues, he has supervised 20 postgraduate students and over 50 undergraduate students. He is currently holds a US and a Malaysian patent. His work is supported by many research funds. In recognition of his achievement, he has received many awards, including the Gold Medal by World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) Geneva in 2000, the National Youth Award and the National Young Scientist Award in 2000 and the Gold Medal from INPEX USA in 2001. In 2003, he was awarded the Vice Chancellor Fellowship Award by Universiti Putra Malaysia and listed in the Marquis Who’s Who in Science and Engineering for 2003-2004 publication.
