Department of Islamic Science University of Malaysia
Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) is an emerging Islamic university which is fully owned and funded by the Malaysian Government. Being the 12th Public Institution of Higher learning, it aims to spearhead knowledge and be the global reference centre for Islamic Science. USIM thus offers a unique model to Islamic Higher Education setting it apart from other Islamic universities worldwide. The integration of religious sciences together with the social and physical sciences in all its programmes provides a comprehensive understanding of current global problems and offers a fresh alternative in solving them.
Engineering mathematics is the quantitative language of the engineering world. It underpins information technology, computer science, and engineering, and plays an increasingly important role for decision-making in an increasingly competitive and technological world.
The Department of Science in Engineering (SIE) at IIUM is part of the Kulliyyah of Engineering. The department is by and large a service department, teaching about 1500 students each semester a variety of subjects, from calculus to advanced engineering mathematics.
The department provides a range of courses such as Calculus, Differential Equations, Computational Methods and Statistics, Complex Variables, Discrete Mathematics and Professional Ethics from an Islamic perspective. Our courses equip engineering students with the necessary mathematical skills, analytical abilities, factual knowledge and communication skills to enable them to work effectively, not only toward their degrees, but also to deal with problems encountered in an increasingly competitive technological world.
Our faculty and staff are fully committed to and are successfully proceeding towards the excellence in teaching, research and services. The department has dynamic research groups carrying out individual research as well as collaborative research locally and internationally.
